Actor Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about a painful breakup that she confirmed last month after a quiet period on social media. In a YouTube interview with Dhanya Varma, the actress detailed a two‑year relationship with an unnamed boyfriend who she describes as a narcissistic abuser. She compared his shifting moods to the split‑personality character in the 2005 film Anniyan, noting that one day he would be charming and loving, only to turn brutal and controlling the next.
According to Anupama, the relationship began quietly and slowly turned into a controlling dynamic. She said that the ex began dictating her wardrobe, insisting she dress “more conservatively” and even asking for approval before she posted pictures on Instagram. The actress revealed that she had to rehearse what to say because she could not predict how he would react – from “love‑bombing” and crying to outright violence.
She also recounted how the controlling behaviour extended to her professional life. “I wasn’t allowed to promote Dragon or dress as I liked,” she said, referring to the film that was a major success for her. Anupama claimed that the ex’s interference forced her to abandon projects and that the pressure to appear “controlled and classy” made her feel silenced.
After months of silence, Anupama returned to Instagram in July with a photo dump and a caption that read, “Turns out, when you don’t have to wait for approvals, a song selection, or someone else’s caption… posting becomes a lot more fun.” She added, “Sometimes, you have to let go of the…” – a hint that she is moving past the relationship and reclaiming her independence.
The actress has not confirmed whether the boyfriend was Dhruv Vikram, the son of actor Vikram, with whom she co‑starred in Bison Kaalamaadan. However, the rumors have persisted, and Anupama’s candid account has shed light on the realities of narcissistic abuse and the challenges of leaving a controlling partner.
