Dulquer Salmaan has announced that his highly‑anticipated Malayalam action‑thriller I’m Game will no longer hit screens on the traditional Onam release date of August 20. The actor took to Instagram to explain that the film’s new premiere is set for September 3, a shift he says is driven by a “larger vision” for the project.
In a detailed note, Salmaan wrote that the film’s scope is expanding: “The game gets bigger. The release gets wider.” He added that the delay is meant to allow the movie to reach a broader audience, with a simultaneous pan‑India theatrical launch in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The actor apologized for the postponement, acknowledging the anticipation of fans but emphasizing that the new schedule will give the film the scale and platform it deserves.
Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, I’m Game marks Salmaan’s return to Malayalam cinema after his 2023 lead role in the action‑thriller King of Kotha. The film also features Antony Varghese and Mysskin in key roles. Salmaan’s cameo in the 2025 film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra had left many wondering when he would next appear in a full‑length Malayalam feature.
The decision to push the release to September comes as the Onam season, a peak period for Malayalam movies, already boasts big titles such as Vysakh’s Khalifa starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Girish A. D’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit featuring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju. By moving I’m Game out of the Onam race, Salmaan hopes to avoid direct competition and maximise box‑office potential across multiple markets.
Senior Content Producer Santanu Das of the Hindustan Times, who has written extensively on South Asian independent cinema, notes that the film’s expanded release strategy could set a new precedent for Malayalam movies aiming for nationwide reach. With the new date in place, audiences across India can look forward to experiencing Salmaan’s latest venture on the big screen on September 3.
