Christy Knowings cause of death; complications from severe asthma attack

Christy Knowings, the former Nickelodeon sketch‑comedy star best remembered for her work on All That, has died at the age of 46. Entertainment Weekly reports that her death was caused by complications that followed a severe asthma attack.

The actress suffered the asthma attack on August 7, which led to significant brain damage. She was rushed to a hospital in the Los Angeles area and placed on life support. After a period of intensive care, her family made the difficult decision to withdraw life support on Tuesday, leading to her passing.

Knowings first rose to prominence during her three‑season stint on All That from roughly 1997 to 2000. She portrayed a variety of characters, most notably Jessica in the “Whateverrr!!!” sketches alongside Amanda Bynes. In addition to her television work, she appeared on Sesame Street with her twin brother, Chris Knowings, and later explored a music career.

In a 2017 interview with Bustle, Knowings revealed that her favorite role was Gloria Bankhead, a character she described as an “over‑the‑top Martha Stewart.” She recalled how she would stay in character even when the cameras were off, saying, “I just remember being on set and being her all‑day long. Everybody loved it! The writers, the stage managers, everybody was just like, ‘Hi Gloria!’ Gloria Bankhead was my favorite character to play. She was on set like that all the time. It’s what I’d do constantly.”

Following the news of her death, fans flooded social media with tributes. One fan wrote, “She was the greatest actress of all time and she will be sadly missed. My condolences go out to her family, friends and fans that knew her and loved her.” Another shared, “I’m crying right now. I remember she said she was going to live in the UK. And she was happy, I just thought about her a few days ago.” A third fan added, “She was an amazing young woman, she took on her roles naturally on All That and it’s too soon.” Yet another reflected, “This is actually so sad about Christy Knowings. I literally just finished recording and watching All That Season 4 her first season of the show yesterday. I loved what she brought to the table, criminally underrated All That cast member. I’m going to record more for this retrospective. R.I.P. Christy.”
