Tyler Duckworth, the 44‑year‑old reality‑TV personality best known for his six appearances on MTV’s The Challenge and a stint on The Real World: Key West, has died in North Dakota. Authorities confirmed the death on Tuesday, August 11, after Duckworth was found unresponsive in a bathroom. The case has been classified as an unattended death, meaning no one witnessed the incident.
The news was first released by Duckworth’s mother, Joni, who posted a heartfelt message on Facebook on Thursday, August 13. “My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week,” she wrote. She added that the family was still awaiting a definitive cause of death before arranging services, noting, “Cause of death has yet to be determined. I will post on Facebook about services as soon as his dad and I figure it out.”
Sources close to the family say that Tyler had recently undergone a surgical procedure, though it is not yet confirmed whether the operation was related to his sudden passing. No official cause of death has been released by North Dakota authorities.
Duckworth’s final public appearance was on July 31, when he attended the Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis alongside fellow MTV personalities Rachel Robinson, Tina Barta, Mark Long and Brad Fiorenza. He later celebrated the outing in an Instagram post on August 2, saying, “So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends.”
Duckworth first appeared on The Challenge in 2006 and went on to win Cutthroat in 2010 and Rivals in 2011. After a decade away from the series, he returned in 2021 for All Stars 2, where he competed until the sixth week before elimination. Outside of television, he had moved from West Hollywood to North Dakota, where he worked as a middle‑school teacher in recent years.
