In a move that signals a new chapter for the hit series, director Hansal Mehta has agreed to co‑direct the upcoming third installment of the “Scam” franchise, titled Scam 2010. The decision comes after Mehta’s own success with Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story in 2020, which established the show as a landmark digital thriller on SonyLIV. While he served as showrunner for the 2003 season, Mehta will return to the director’s chair for the 2010 story, this time sharing responsibilities with writer Sumit Purohit.
Purohit, who penned several episodes of the first season, is a natural fit for the role. He made his directorial debut with the espionage thriller series Saare Jahan Se Accha and later directed the satirical comedy‑drama Baaghi Bechare, starring Pratik Gandhi, Abhishek Banerjee and Faisal Malik. His transition from scriptwriter to co‑director marks a significant step in his career and is expected to bring fresh energy to the franchise’s storytelling style.
Production on Scam 2010 began in late May and has been shot across a range of Indian locations, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai and Dehradun. The series will focus on the financial controversies surrounding Subrata Roy, the controversial businessman behind Sahara India Pariwar. Marathi actor Siddharth Bodke, known for Devmanus and Drishyam 2, will portray Roy, while Kritika Singh, Moon Banerjee and CID veteran Aditya Srivastava join the principal cast.
The show is produced by Applause Entertainment and Birla Studios and is based on Tamal Bandyopadhyay’s 2014 book Sahara: The Untold Story. It will chronicle Roy’s meteoric rise, the sprawling business empire he built, and the protracted legal battles that followed. The narrative aims to dissect the contradictions in Roy’s public persona and explore the complex intersections of markets, governance and accountability in contemporary Indian finance.
With a projected wrap‑up in mid‑September, Scam 2010 is slated for a global premiere on SonyLIV in early 2027. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a new blend of investigative drama and sharp commentary, now guided by the collaborative vision of Hansal Mehta and Sumit Purohit.
