Yash humbly acknowledges SRK's seniority; KGF's box office success

Kannada superstar Yash, who has risen to become one of India’s most bankable actors, recently appeared on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat to reflect on the 2018 box‑office showdown between his film KGF: Chapter 1 and Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero. The two releases, which opened on the same weekend, sparked a debate among fans and industry insiders alike. Yash admitted that although KGF outperformed Zero in revenue, the success did not alter his perception of the Bollywood legend. “I’m still his fan,” he said, adding that the scale of Shah Rukh’s film was larger, so the timing of their releases was a matter of logistics rather than rivalry.

When Yash was informed that his film had eclipsed Zero at the box office, he replied that Shah Rukh is a superstar and that the day he felt he was bigger than his seniors, “uss din mera dukaan band” – that day he would close his shop. The humility displayed by Yash resonated with viewers, who flooded the comments section with praise. One fan wrote, “That humility is a slipper shot to Bollywood PR,” while another declared, “He is the real superstar.” The actor’s respectful stance toward his senior earned him further admiration across social media.

During the promotional launch of KGF: Chapter 1, Yash clarified that the clash with Zero was not intentional. He explained that India’s multilingual market requires careful release dates that accommodate five languages, and that “one film cannot acquire the whole country.” “We had to find a date that worked for all distributors,” he said, stressing that the overlap was a logistical necessity rather than a deliberate challenge.

Zero, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, failed to make a mark at the box office, whereas KGF: Chapter 1 became a blockbuster. The Kannada film went on to become the highest‑grossing Kannada production until its sequel surpassed it. It also earned two National Awards at the 66th ceremony for Best Action Direction and Best Special Effects.

Looking ahead, Yash is preparing for his next venture, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown‑Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film will see him in a dual role alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth, and is slated for an August 2026 theatrical release. Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, is set to debut King, helmed by Siddharth Anand and starring Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Suhana Khan, with a December 24 release date. Both actors continue to expand their filmographies, each poised for new milestones in the coming months.
