While returning to Kerala from a shoot break, veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty and his entourage were stranded by a sudden roadblock on the highway near Tirupathur. The incident occurred early in the morning, after the group had reached the town at about 3:30 a.m. and spent almost an hour attempting to navigate alternate routes suggested by Google Maps, only to find each diversion blocked as well.
Producer Anto Joseph, who was traveling with Mammootty, later posted a video and a detailed account of the ordeal on social media. The cast and crew included actor Ramesh Pisharody, Mammootty’s close aide George, and driver Unni. With no viable path forward, Mammootty decided to return to their hotel in Karaikudi and resume the journey the next day, hoping the road would clear.
On the way back, the group stopped at a petrol pump in Pattamangalam where a young man sleeping nearby offered a few alternate routes. Having already tried most of those suggestions, the crew was still stuck when another man, also asleep nearby, approached and asked if they were Malayalis. Recognizing the famous actor, he immediately offered assistance, saying, “Are you Mammootty sir? Follow me.” He rode on his bike and guided them for about ten kilometres past the blocked stretch, pointing them toward the road that led straight into Kerala.
After reaching a safe point, Mammootty asked the man for his name. He introduced himself as Pandian, and the actor thanked him by putting his arm around the young man and posing for a photo. Pisharody, who had been discussing Mammootty’s Care and Share initiative with the group, later told Anto that they should reciprocate the kindness Pandian showed them, remarking, “Anto chetta, we should share the care he showed us too.”
The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers praising the stranger’s goodwill and highlighting the unexpected heroism that helped a celebrated film star and his team navigate a potentially dangerous situation.
