Filmmaker Priyadarshan and Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan are set to collaborate for the first time on the upcoming thriller Haiwaan. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the veteran director reflected on his experience directing Saif, describing the actor as a “greedy but obedient” performer who quickly builds confidence on set.
Priyadarshan called Saif a “mature child” who asks many questions at the start of a shoot. He noted that once the director’s intentions are clarified, Saif “just obeys” and the crew feels more secure. The director added that after two days of shooting, he found Saif had no further questions, which helped establish a smooth working relationship. He praised Saif’s commitment and described him as a “voracious reader,” a trait that is rare among actors today.
During the interview, Priyadarshan shared that he and Saif bonded over their shared love of Pataudi Nawab. The actor gifted the director a signed book, which the filmmaker enjoyed discussing. Priyadarshan said that Saif’s obedience and slight greediness made the director feel confident in him, allowing the film to move forward smoothly.
In Haiwaan, Saif portrays a visually impaired man who navigates the world with a stick and a special watch. The teaser also shows Akshay Kumar’s character menacingly walking before a sinister laugh. The ensemble cast includes Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles. The film marks a reunion between Akshay and Saif after 18 years, their last collaboration being the 2008 film Tashan.
Produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under KVN Productions and Thespian Films, Haiwaan is a remake of the Malayalam hit Oppam, with updated dialogues and screenplay. Priyadarshan teased a cameo by Mohanlal in the film. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on 11 September 2026.
