Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been announced as the host of Sony Pictures Networks India’s new reality series, Celebrity MasterChef Tamil. The show, produced by Banijay Asia, will bring Tamil film and television stars out of their usual sets and into a competitive kitchen environment, challenging them to create dishes that satisfy both the judges and the audience.
The launch was revealed by Sony Pictures Networks India on its Instagram account on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with a promotional clip and a caption that read, “The ultimate culinary face‑off begins here, with @samantharuthprabhuoffl leading the way. Celebrity MasterChef Tamil – Coming soon on Sony and Sony LIV.” The series is scheduled to air on Sony and its streaming platform Sony LIV, though the exact premiere date has not yet been disclosed.
In a statement released alongside the announcement, Prabhu expressed her enthusiasm for the project. “I’m incredibly excited to finally share this with everyone. Celebrity MasterChef Tamil is unlike anything I’ve done before, and that’s exactly what made it impossible to say no,” she said. She added that food has a unique way of bringing people together and revealing aspects of oneself that cameras rarely capture.
Prabhu also highlighted the appeal of watching familiar faces take on culinary challenges. “What I’m most excited about is watching some of our favourite Tamil celebrities step into the kitchen, take risks, make mistakes, surprise themselves, and compete with a lot more passion than you’d expect! I wish I could tell you who’s cooking, but where’s the fun in that? I can’t wait for everyone to experience what we’re cooking up with Sony Vizha,” she said.
With its blend of celebrity drama and gastronomic competition, Celebrity MasterChef Tamil promises to offer viewers a fresh perspective on the stars they love, all while showcasing the rich culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu.
