Daisy Shah Defends Food Safety Crusader; Takes Aim at Unhealthy India

In a bold move that has sparked a nationwide debate on food safety, Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) chief, IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, has intensified inspections and enforcement against food adulteration and unsafe practices across the state. Mundhe’s crackdown has targeted eateries, food manufacturers, retailers and other establishments, taking action whenever violations of safety regulations are discovered. The drive, which began earlier this year, has brought renewed focus on the everyday risks posed by adulterated or unsafe food and the need for stricter implementation of existing safety standards.

“Actions that protect something as fundamental as the food we eat are not just administrative decisions, they are a powerful step towards building a healthier and more responsible society,” Mundhe’s ally, actress Daisy Shah, said on the Independence Day celebrations. Shah, who recently appeared on the television show Alliance, praised Mundhe’s strict stand against food adulteration, calling it “truly commendable.” She added that real patriotism involves creating a safer and healthier India for everyone.

Shah’s endorsement comes amid growing support from other public figures who believe that stronger action is needed to ensure the food reaching people is safe. Television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Bollywood stars Paresh Rawal and Rakesh Bedi have all publicly backed Mundhe’s work, urging for stricter action against those who compromise public health for profit.

The initiative has sparked a conversation about whether officials who take such firm measures should be allowed to continue their work without political or administrative interference. Mundhe’s firm approach has drawn praise from many who see it as a necessary step to protect consumers, while critics worry about potential overreach. Regardless, the crackdown has underscored the importance of safeguarding the nation’s food supply and has positioned food safety at the forefront of public health discussions in Maharashtra.
