Malayalam time‑loop flick Dhoomakethu sparks early chatter; viewers split on its quirky premise

The Malayalam film Dhoomakethu opened in theatres on Friday, September 25, 2026, and has already sparked conversation online. Directed by Sudhi Maddison, the movie follows Kuttan, a 36‑year‑old groom who wakes from a nightmare about his own death on the day of his wedding. As the day progresses, familiar moments begin to repeat, creating a time‑loop that throws Kuttan into a frantic search for the truth before the cycle restarts.

The cast is led by Sajin Gopu in the title role, with Nikhila Vimal, Shine Tom Chacko, Sidharth Bharathan and Ganapathi supporting him. The screenplay was written by Sonny and Manu, while production was handled by Sameer Thahir, Shyju Khalid, Sajin Ali and Abbas Thirunavaya. Jinto George shot the film, and Vivek Harshan edited it, with Ankit Menon providing the musical score.

Production design was overseen by Ouseph John, sound design by Renganaath Ravee, and costume design by Mashar Hamsa. Makeup was handled by R G Wayanadan, stunt choreography by Steven Kumar, and casting by Binoy Nambala. Antony Thomas served as production controller, and Vishnu Sujathan mixed the sound. Lyrics were written by Vinayak Sasikumar and Muthu.

Post‑production saw Color Planet Studios complete digital intermediate work, with Remesh C P as colourist. Visual effects were delivered by Pictorial FX and ProlabVFX. The film’s first screenings have already generated a mix of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with viewers debating its quirky premise and the comedic‑thriller blend.

While the early audience feedback is split, it provides a snapshot of how Dhoomakethu is being received. As more viewers hit the theatres in the coming days, a clearer picture of the film’s overall reception is expected to emerge.
