Veteran Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan announced on Wednesday that he would be taking a short break from social media after doctors advised him to rest and recover for a few days. The 74‑year‑old actor posted a brief message on X, writing in Hindi, “Apologies. I seek forgiveness. I have been advised to take a few days off to rest and recover, so I am unable to write anything at the moment.” He did not reveal the medical reason behind the recommendation, but the post made clear that his online presence would be paused for the time being.
The decision comes amid ongoing speculation about Bachchan’s health and possible retirement, topics that have dominated headlines in recent weeks. Last month the actor sparked rumours when a cryptic Tumblr entry suggested he might be stepping back from acting. He later clarified that the post was simply a note that he was going to sleep for the night, not a retirement announcement.
Despite the pause in his social media activity, Bachchan’s professional calendar remains full. He is set to reprise his role as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin’s upcoming sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, starring alongside Prabhas and Kamal Haasan. In addition, he will continue hosting the current season of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Earlier this month, he appeared noticeably less energetic on the show, skipping his usual opening monologue after a fall on set the day before. He addressed the incident by pointing to his left knee and assured viewers that he was fine.
Bachchan’s health has been a subject of media attention since May, when reports claimed he was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital for a routine monthly check‑up. He returned home the same day. Now, with the latest update from his doctors, he will reduce his online activity while following the recommendation to rest and recover. Fans and industry insiders alike are awaiting further details on his condition and the length of his break.
