Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi concert halted; police deny venue permission

Delhi Police have refused to grant permission for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert on October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, putting the opening of the Aura India Tour in the capital on hold. The decision was communicated to the ticketing partner BookMyShow by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) after reviewing the organisers’ application submitted on October 14. Police cited security concerns, including unspecified threat‑related inputs, and existing law‑and‑order commitments during the festive season as the main reasons for the denial.

The concert had originally been scheduled for November 1 but was moved forward to October 30 following an appeal by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney. Sahney had expressed worries about holding the event on the anniversary of the 1984 anti‑Sikh violence. Organisers announced the new date and kept existing tickets valid, but the police clearance was never obtained.

While the police communication does not detail the nature of the threats, it alludes to past security concerns involving Diljit, including alleged links to Khalistani elements. The denial comes amid broader security worries in Delhi, highlighted by recent incidents such as shots fired outside the residence of Diljit’s manager and an attack involving actor Tiger Shroff.

At present, the concert has not been officially cancelled. Organisers have yet to announce a new date, an alternate venue, or a complete withdrawal of the Delhi show. Ticket holders are advised to await confirmation from the organisers and BookMyShow regarding the event’s status and any potential changes to their bookings.
