Thalapathy Vijay’s final outing, the political action drama Jana Nayagan, opened to a strong domestic response but has begun to falter as it entered its second week. Directed by H Vinoth and released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the film features a star‑studded cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Priyamani, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Mamitha Baiju, Nassar, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain. It was billed as Vijay’s last appearance on the silver screen before he stepped away from acting to pursue a political career, becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu after a 34‑year tenure as a film star.
While the opening weekend saw a robust turnout, the numbers have steadily declined. By day nine, the film’s evening occupancy had slipped to a mere 30%, according to Sacnilk. The early‑trend earnings for the day were Rs 2.28 crore, split into Rs 2.07 crore from Tamil markets and Rs 21 lakh from the Hindi release, bringing the cumulative total to Rs 155.83 crore.
Industry analysts predict that Jana Nayagan will not reach the Rs 160 crore milestone before the second weekend. The film’s trajectory shows a continuous dip after the initial surge, a trend that has disappointed fans and distributors alike.
Director H Vinoth praised Vijay, now the chief minister, for his genuine commitment to social and political causes. In an interview with NDTV, Vinoth remarked, “He has very good intentions. When he speaks about social and political issues like women’s empowerment, women’s safety, and corruption, he genuinely believes in what he is saying and wants to do good for the people.”
