Nearly two decades have passed since Tamil film stars Suriya and Jyotika exchanged vows, and the couple has recently opened up about their enduring partnership. They first met on the set of the 1999 film Poovellam Kettuppar and fell in love while working together on Gautham Vasudev Menon’s 2003 thriller Kaakha Kaakha. The pair tied the knot in Chennai on 11 September 2006 and will soon celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
Their love story has been a subject of fascination for fans, especially after the revelation that Jyotika’s salary for Kaakha Kaakha was three times that of Suriya’s. In a recent interview with THR India, the actor admitted that he was enamoured with her even before they were officially married. Jyotika, in turn, described Suriya as a “green flag” and praised his character as a husband who treats her as an equal both on and off the screen.
When asked about their dynamic at home, Jyotika highlighted that they share a sense of equality: “If she doesn’t want to cook… we are equals at home. It only comes from a genuine, deep feeling inside a man,” she said. She added that Suriya’s willingness to share responsibilities and respect her career is a rare quality that she values deeply.
During a promotion for his upcoming film Vishwanath & Sons, Suriya reflected on the nature of long‑term love, stating that affection should never wane after 20 years. “Love should be everlasting. Even if you’ve been together for 20 years, you should keep loving every day,” he said, noting that while people evolve, the core bond must remain unchanged.
Both actors continue to thrive in their respective careers. Jyotika has recently taken on a leading role in the Prime Video courtroom drama System, while Suriya has appeared in the film Karuppu. Their professional achievements, coupled with a strong personal foundation, have made them a beloved power couple in Tamil cinema.
