Netflix’s new series Operation Safed Sagar has become one of the most celebrated Indian streaming shows of the year, thanks to its high‑quality visual effects, strong performances and an in‑depth look at the real events that unfolded during the Kargil War. The aerial drama, which follows the Indian Air Force’s Golden Arrows squadron, has been praised for its authenticity, a quality the creators have insisted was central to the project.
Co‑creator Abhijeet Singh Parmar and co‑producer Mehboob Pal Singh Brar explained to the Hindustan Times that the show’s realism stemmed from extensive research that spanned more than two years. Brar said the team “had to protect the soul of the show” and keep the focus on the emotions and human story amid the jets, bases, peaks and large cast. Parmar added that the pilots and officers from the Indian Air Force were the biggest advocates for keeping the narrative true to life.
During the research phase, the team spoke with fighter pilots who made it clear that they wanted the series to avoid the stereotypical cinematic heroics. “Do not show us coming down from the plane in a full hero mode, walking in slow motion,” one senior officer advised. The pilots explained that after a sortie they are sweaty, have lost about a kilogram and look far from glamorous. The creators took this feedback seriously, portraying the pilots as ordinary, exhausted human beings rather than larger‑than‑life figures.
Based on the real Operation Safed Sagar, which helped turn the tide of the Kargil conflict, the series centers on daring missions flown at 30,000 feet. It features a star‑studded cast that includes Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Abhay Verma, Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin, Amrita Bagchi, Dia Mirza and Prajakta Koli. The show is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
