Cinema VinesOn September 22, 2026, the Australian Parliament in Victoria honoured Tamil music legend Il Ilaiyaraaja with the unveiling of a commemorative stamp, marking the composer’s 50‑year career in the film and music industry. The ceremony, hosted by the Victorian Government, saw the stamp presented by Enver Erdogan MP, the Minister for Finance, alongside other members of parliament.
The stamp, issued inside Parliament House, celebrates Ilaiyaraaja’s monumental contributions to cinema worldwide. The event comes as the composer embarks on a global tour to celebrate his golden jubilee, with performances scheduled in Sydney on September 26 and Brisbane on October 5, and several stops across North America.
Earlier this year, the MK Stalin Government of Tamil Nadu honored Ilaiyaraaja at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai for the same milestone. The Australian tribute follows a recent headline about the Film Federation of India selecting the Marathi thriller Gondhal as India’s official entry for next year’s Oscars in the International Feature Film category.
The stamp release precedes the release of the Tamil film Dorothy, which features music by Ilaiyaraaja. The song “Muthumani” from the film has already generated significant buzz. Ilaiyaraaja’s career includes work on 1,540 films as a music composer.
