Gulshan Devaiah, who is set to release his next feature Little Thomas on Friday, October 23, took to an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama to discuss his approach to gauging audience reactions and to clear up a long‑standing myth about his filmography.
When asked whether he checks cinemas or social media to see how viewers are responding to his work, the actor admitted he generally does not. “I don’t even check social media. My job is done, and now it’s up to the audience to decide,” he said. “It’s a way of self‑preservation so I don’t get stressed. It’s human tendency – 100 people would have praised you, but that one negative comment will bother you (laughs). You forget that 100 people have said good things.” He added that, depending on his mood, he sometimes does look into the business side of a film, but otherwise leaves the verdict to the public.
The interview also tackled a false claim that Devaiah had appeared in Salman Khan’s 2004 romantic drama Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa. Wikipedia lists him as a DJ in the film, a role that can be seen briefly in the song “Go Balle Balle.” However, Devaiah denied any participation. “That’s not true,” he laughed. “2011 was my debut year. The festival screening of That Girl In Yellow Boots happened in 2010. In 2002 I did an English film called Brides Wanted while I was in Bengaluru, but it never got released.” He added that he had even seen the incorrect Wikipedia entry himself and found it amusing.
Devaiah’s own debut came in 2011, and he expressed a light‑hearted wish that, one day, Amitabh Bachchan might ask him about his first film on Kaun Banega Crorepati, joking that both That Girl In Yellow Boots and the erroneous Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa would be among the options.
In a separate interview, the actor explained why he chose to star in Little Thomas, saying the film “reminds you of your childhood.” He was surprised that the CBFC had awarded the film a U/A 7+ rating instead of a U rating, remarking, “I really don’t know on what basis they took that decision.”
With the release of Little Thomas on the horizon, Devaiah remains focused on delivering his performance and letting the audience decide, while also dispelling myths that have circulated online about his early career.
