Ryan Reynolds crashes SDCC panel as Deadpool; begs for Avengers: Doomsday role

At Marvel Studios’ grand presentation during San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, actor Ryan Reynolds stole the show by walking onto the stage in a brand‑new Deadpool costume, sparking a laugh‑filled moment that left the Hall H audience in stitches. The surprise appearance came as the Russo Brothers, Robert Downey Jr., and Paul Rudd were preparing to unveil an exclusive preview of the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, which had already released a teaser online on July 20.

Reynolds stayed in character throughout his cameo, jokingly campaigning for a cameo role for Deadpool in the forthcoming Avengers movie. He first turned to Paul Rudd, who plays Ant‑Man, and quipped about a lingering joke from the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, asking Rudd, “Where is Thor, and why was he crying?” The reference to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor holding a dying Deadpool in a future‑glimpse scene had the crowd roaring with laughter.

When the conversation shifted to the Avengers: Doomsday cast, Reynolds poked fun at the production’s high‑profile announcement, remarking on the cost of the event and asking, “This seems like an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?” Robert Downey Jr., who is reprising his role as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Universe, shot back with a playful retort: “It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?”

Reynolds pressed further, inquiring whether there were any last‑minute additions or extra photography that might allow Deadpool a spot in the movie. He then wrapped up his brief onstage stint with a witty farewell: “No further questions. Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi. We’re leaving.” After exiting, he posted photos on social media of himself in the new grey Deadpool suit, further fueling the buzz.

The panel, hosted by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and attended by the Russo Brothers, featured a star‑studded lineup that included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John‑Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía. Hayley Atwell also joined the discussion, confirming her return to the franchise. The event showcased exclusive footage and key announcements, cementing Avengers: Doomsday as the next big entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
