Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Leaked Online; Breaks Box Office Records

Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, The Odyssey, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Just a week after its theatrical debut, the film was leaked across social media platforms, prompting Universal Pictures to launch immediate takedown procedures. The leak surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) as a low‑quality copy that amassed over 50,000 views before being removed two hours later, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reports also confirm that copies are circulating on Telegram and other messaging apps.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures confirmed that it had “become aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols.” The studio reiterated its commitment to protecting intellectual property, saying it would pursue all appropriate legal remedies against the infringers.

Despite the piracy setback, The Odyssey continues to dominate the box office. In its second weekend, the film grossed $87 million in North America, pushing the domestic total to $286 million. Internationally, it added more than $350 million, bringing the worldwide haul to nearly $640 million. Premium large‑format screens, especially IMAX, contributed $48 million of the global earnings this weekend.

The earnings are impressive: the $87 million haul in the second weekend eclipses the $82 million that Nolan’s Oppenheimer earned during its opening three days in 2023. The film’s success underscores the enduring appeal of epic storytelling, even as it faces the modern threat of digital piracy.

Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the movie follows the legendary hero’s perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The cast includes Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and a star‑studded lineup featuring Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Travis Scott, and Benny Safdie.
