Pankaj Tripathi's Ohh My Dog; Release Postponed to August 7

Pankaj Tripathi’s family drama Ohh My Dog has been pushed back by one week, with the new release date set for August 7 instead of the original July 31. The decision, according to insiders, was taken to avoid a direct box‑office clash with Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Spider‑Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to dominate screens and draw massive audiences.

Sources close to the project say that exhibitors are prioritising the Marvel release, creating a shortage of available screens for smaller films. Director Amit Rai explained that the postponement was a “very practical decision” driven by intense competition for theatre space, rather than any issue with the film itself. He noted that theatres are already booked for major releases such as Odyssey and Dhamaal 4, and that Spider‑Man is projected to open with around Rs. 50 crores, leaving little room for other titles.

Rai added that Ohh My Dog is a family entertainer whose target audience overlaps with those of the big releases, and that a lack of screens would hamper the film’s marketing and release strategy. He said the team would “step aside briefly,” delay the launch by a week, and return when the bigger releases have cleared the way, hoping to secure better visibility.

The film recently cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A rating, after the board required a few changes. Modifications included muting brand mentions of ‘Truecaller’ and ‘Dettol’, removing a curse word, shortening a dog‑related sequence by two seconds, and blurring a photo frame of Lord Hanuman in one scene.
