Ansiba Hassan summoned by court; Lakshmipriya defamation case

The Ernakulam Magistrate Court issued a summons on Monday, ordering actress Ansiba Hassan to appear for the recording of her statement in a defamation case involving fellow actor Lakshmipriya. The court’s directive follows a complaint filed by Hassan weeks earlier, in which she accused Lakshmipriya of orchestrating a coordinated campaign to defame her through the spread of false and obscene content on social media.

According to the court papers, Hassan’s lawyer, Advocate Firdouz Ammanath, said the parties would challenge the summons in the Kerala High Court. Hassan had initially lodged her complaint with the Palarivattom police in June, naming former AMMA office‑bearer Lakshmipriya as the alleged mastermind behind the online smear.

During the July 21 hearing before the magistrate, the prosecution opposed Hassan’s request for a police investigation. It argued that the complaint represented a case of defamation and did not constitute a cognisable offence that would warrant police intervention.

The court’s decision to summon Hassan for a statement is a procedural step in the ongoing legal dispute, which centers on allegations that Lakshmipriya deliberately circulated false and obscene material targeting Hassan in order to tarnish her reputation.
