Sana Saeed Battles Bulimia; Opens Up About Long Recovery

Former child star Sana Saeed, who first captured audiences as young Anjali in the 1995 hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, has spoken publicly about her long‑standing struggle with bulimia. The actress, now based in Los Angeles and running her own production company, revealed that she lived in silence for six years before she could even name the eating disorder that had taken hold of her life.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Saeed explained that the lack of a diagnosis left her feeling isolated and ashamed. “For six years I had no name for what I was going through,” she said. It wasn’t until she discovered a recovery book that she finally understood what she was dealing with, giving her the language needed to seek help.

After receiving a diagnosis, the actress faced another four years of recovery before she felt fully healed. “I was desperate to get better and find a healthy way to eat, and eventually I came across a book on recovery that gave me the language for what I was actually dealing with,” Saeed recalled. She emphasized that her decision to share her story came only after she had reached a place of healing, hoping it might ease the burden for others.

Reflecting on the entertainment industry’s pressure to maintain a certain look, Saeed noted that conversations about dieting and weight were common during her college years. “Being on camera, being commented on, having your appearance be part of the job description,” she said, adding that the constant scrutiny made it difficult to separate self‑worth from physical appearance. She now believes she has the emotional tools to navigate that challenge, thanks to her recovery journey.

Saheed’s candid disclosure comes at a time when public figures are increasingly open about mental health and eating disorders. By sharing her experience, she hopes to remind viewers that they are not alone and that seeking help can ultimately lead to healing.
