Yash Raj Films and Google Host AI Filmmaking Workshop; Explore AI in Indian Cinema

Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Google announced a joint AI filmmaking workshop for India’s creative community, scheduled for August 4 at YRF Studios. The event will showcase Google’s Flow, an AI‑powered creative studio, and provide hands‑on training for filmmakers and production professionals. Participants will learn how to weave AI tools into their existing workflows, using the technology as a storytelling companion while keeping full creative control.

According to Akshaye Widhani, CEO of YRF, every generation of filmmakers receives new tools and must decide whether the tool serves the story or dictates it. “We’re choosing to have that conversation early and on our terms, in the room with the people building this technology,” he said. “This session is about giving our filmmakers and creative teams the judgment to use AI deliberately, so that craft stays firmly in human hands, and the camera, the actor, and the story remain where they’ve always belonged – at the centre.”

Google’s Dr. Arathi Sethumadhavan, Director of User Experience Research, Technology & Society, added that the workshop will extend Flow’s reach across India. “We are already seeing incredible momentum with Google Flow in India. Through this workshop, we’re excited to bring our AI creative studio to even more creators across the country – and see how these legendary storytellers use the technology to challenge boundaries of artistic expression,” she said.

The workshop will also feature networking sessions with Google’s core AI engineering and product teams, and optional deep‑dive modules for filmmakers ready to apply Flow to active projects. Both companies see the event as a launchpad for ongoing dialogue with India’s leading storytellers, aiming to explore how world‑class creatives can push AI tools to unlock new narrative forms and elevate Indian cinema globally.

YRF’s partnership with Google marks one of the first times the Flow team has been brought directly into a major international studio’s production and creative leadership. The collaboration underscores YRF’s commitment to fostering innovation while preserving the human element at the heart of filmmaking.
