Fans of Bollywood’s upcoming release Batwara 1947 are abuzz, not for the film’s plot but for a striking poster that has sparked a comparison to popular actress Kiara Advani. The poster, unveiled on July 30, showcases Kanikka Kapur—who is set to make her Bollywood debut—alongside co‑star Karan Deol. Kapur’s appearance, featuring a floral suit, light brown dupatta, minimal makeup and slightly messy hair, has led many viewers to pause and remark that she looks eerily similar to Advani.
The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is scheduled for worldwide release on August 14, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. While the story—adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s 1989 play *Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai*—follows a married couple (played by Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta) celebrating freedom only to be forced to migrate to Pakistan, the poster has taken center stage on social media.
After posting the image on Instagram, Kapur wrote, “Watch #Batwara1947 in cinemas this Partition Day, 14th August.” The comment section quickly flooded with reactions comparing her to Advani. Some users noted that the resemblance seemed artificial, suggesting the image might have been generated using AI. Comments ranged from playful (“I thought why Kiara name not in credits for a second”) to critical (“Bloody how lazy has this industry become it’s so shameful”). Kapur herself seemed amused, replying with a laughing emoji to one of the remarks.
Kanikka Kapur hails from Delhi and previously appeared on television in the serial *Ek Duje Ke Vaaste 2* as Suman Tiwari. She has also featured in web series such as Dono, Modern Parivar and Murderbad, and began her career in theatre during college. At 18, she entered modeling, winning titles like Miss Mood Indigo, Femina Style Diva North and Manappuram Miss Queen Of India.
While the poster debate continues, the focus remains on the film’s upcoming release. Batwara 1947 promises a dramatic look at the Partition era, blending star power with a narrative rooted in historical drama.
