Months after a viral Instagram post sparked an online backlash, Vismaya Mohanlal told Galatta Plus that she never feels her life is constantly under a microscope, even as the daughter of Malayalam film icon Mohanlal. The 27‑year‑old, who has spent much of her childhood in Ooty rather than Kerala, said the distance from the state's film hub has shielded her from the intense media scrutiny that many of her peers face.
The controversy began when Vismaya shared an Instagram story supporting the Delhi student protests, questioning whether a democratic country should respond to its own citizens in such a manner. The post drew criticism and hate from some quarters, but the actress clarified that she has never personally experienced the level of scrutiny that the story suggested. She added that she deliberately avoids reading comments on social media, and that her only unpleasant encounters have been people recognizing her while traveling with her father.
Vismaya admitted that being Mohanlal’s daughter inevitably invites judgment, and that people’s opinions about her father—whether positive or negative—tend to extend to her. Despite this, she said she never feels burdened by the expectations that come with belonging to one of Malayalam cinema’s most prominent families. She also noted that her brother, Pranav Mohanlal, has cautioned her that every public statement carries consequences, and that a friend once urged her to think more carefully before sharing her views because of her lineage.
Looking ahead, Vismaya is preparing for her acting debut in Jude Anthany Joseph’s film Thudakkam, set to hit screens on August 7. She remains focused on her personal and professional growth, stating that she will continue to navigate the public eye on her own terms.
