After a brief theatrical run that began on July 10, 2026, the Tamil coming‑of‑age romance Idhayam Murali is set to hit the digital stage on Netflix on August 7, 2026. The film, which debuted in cinemas last month, will now be available to stream for the first time in the coming weeks.
Directed and co‑written by debutant filmmaker Aakash Baskaran, who also produced the project under his Dawn Pictures banner, the story follows the titular character Idhaya, played by Atharvaa. The narrative centers on Idhaya’s journey to India in the run‑up to his wedding, during which a chance encounter with a stranger prompts him to revisit pivotal moments from his childhood, school, college and early adulthood. The film explores how the relationships and unspoken feelings that shaped his life influence his present decisions and future prospects.
The cast features a mix of established and emerging talent. Alongside Atharvaa, the film stars Preity Mukhundhan, Kayadu Lohar, Malavika Mohanan, Natty Subramaniam, Ramki, Rakshan, Dravid Selvam, Sudhakar and Niharika NM. Notably, Fahadh Faasil delivers an extended cameo, while Thaman S makes a return to acting after a 22‑year hiatus; he also composed the film’s music.
Technical credits include cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa and CH Sai, editing by Pradeep E. Ragav, lyrics by Vivek, and dialogues by Ramanagirivasan with additional contributions from Baskaran and Selvam. The film’s release strategy has been confirmed on Netflix’s listings, which currently state “Coming on Friday” for the August 7 premiere, but an official announcement from the platform’s social media channels is still pending. Further details, such as the languages in which the film will be available, are expected to surface closer to the digital launch.
