Actor Sonakshi Sinha has publicly backed students in Jharkhand who are protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The actress took to Instagram Stories, posting a reel featuring a content creator who spoke about the hundreds of students who have been staging a sit‑in since July 29 at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. In the caption, she wrote, “It’s so disheartening to see students of our country go through this… when will it stop???”
The protests began after students alleged that the JMM‑led state government was attempting to “whitewash” the matter by entrusting the investigation to the Central Investigation Department (CID). They demanded an independent probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), citing large‑scale financial transactions allegedly linked to a recruitment scam. Vinay Mehta, an aspirant from Hazaribag district, told PTI that the CID had already found that 135 of 150 questions in the JSSC‑CGL paper had been leaked and that 120 questions matched the examination paper exactly.
The Civil Justice Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke also expressed support for the students. In a post on X, Dipke said he had spoken with the protesters and that his outfit, which had recently led a campaign against a NEET paper leak in Delhi, “stands with all students.” He added that the CJP “stands with all the students in Jharkhand and supports their demands.”
The demonstrators are demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Combined Preliminary Test held on April 19 and an independent investigation by central agencies into alleged irregularities in both the JPSC and JSSC exams. They also want a fifth option, “not attempted,” added to OMR sheets to prevent cheating. A student from Giridih district told PTI that the careers of thousands of aspirants, many from farming families, are at stake and that they simply want fair opportunities based on merit.
Students have been holding an indefinite sit‑in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and have marched to Albert Ekka Chowk, raising slogans against the JMM‑led alliance government. They are calling for strict punishment for those involved in the alleged irregularities and the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination. The protests have drawn attention to the broader issue of corruption in state‑level public recruitment tests.
