Deepika Padukone's Abusive Scene in Ram-Leela Workshop; Jayati Bhatia Recalls

Veteran actor and acting coach Jayati Bhatia recently recalled a memorable moment from a workshop that she conducted with Deepika Padukone before the filming of the 2013 epic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Bhatia, who had worked with the actress on the set, described how Deepika’s commitment to the craft was evident even in the most intense exercises.

During the rehearsal, Bhatia instructed Deepika to stand on a balcony in Bhansali’s office and deliver a series of harsh, profanity‑laden lines without looking down, as if she were addressing a specific person. The actor, who had already made a name for herself with the 2007 debut Om Shanti Om and the breakthrough role in Cocktail (2012), took the challenge to heart. She went beyond the script’s boundaries, using words that had never been heard in the workshop and pushing the scene to new levels of intensity. Bhatia was astonished, remarking, “She just went for it. I said, ‘Wow!’”

Jayati Bhatia also shared how she had convinced director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to extend the workshop after the fourth day. She explained that Deepika had become a fearless actress following Cocktail and that any further delay would waste both her time and the director’s. “She is mouldable, fearless; she wants to do something that will challenge her,” Bhatia said, highlighting the actress’s eagerness to grow.

Beyond the workshop, the article notes that Deepika Padukone’s recent film appearances include Singham Again, and that she and co‑star Ranveer Singh welcomed their daughter, Dua, in 2024. The couple announced a second pregnancy in April, sharing a playful photo of Dua holding a positive pregnancy test. The piece closes with a brief mention of Santanu Das, a senior content producer for the Hindustan Times who writes on films and pop culture.
