Kunchacko Boban’s Malayalam psychological mystery thriller Unmadham has seen a steady decline in its box‑office performance since its July 31 release, edging close to the ₹3 crore mark in India’s net collections after five days. According to the tracking portal Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated ₹29 lakh net on Tuesday, August 4, from 584 shows, down 19.4% from the ₹36 lakh collected on Monday.
With the cumulative India net collection now at roughly ₹2.92 crore, the gross figure has climbed to about ₹3.39 crore after five days in theatres. The film’s opening day on Friday pulled in an estimated ₹70 lakh net across 640 shows, with overall occupancy hovering around 29%. Saturday saw a modest uptick to ₹77 lakh and a 31% occupancy, while Sunday peaked at ₹80 lakh with 35% occupancy.
However, the weekday run has been a drop‑off. Monday’s takings fell to ₹36 lakh and occupancy slid to 17%, and Tuesday’s earnings dipped further to ₹29 lakh with only 15% occupancy. The number of screens tracked by Sacnilk has also shrunk, from 640 on Friday to 584 by Tuesday.
With Day 6 underway on Wednesday, August 5, Unmadham still needs an estimated ₹8 lakh in net collections to hit the ₹3 crore threshold. Its performance over the remaining weekdays will dictate its position heading into the second weekend.
The film, directed by debutant Kiran Das and written by Shahi Kabir, follows a police constable haunted by past events who revisits an old case, uncovering hidden truths that impact both the investigation and his personal life. It stars Kunchacko Boban, Lijomol Jose and Sudheesh, and is produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak with co‑producers Ram Mirchandani and Rajesh Menon. Cinematography is handled by Arjun Sethu.
