Prime Video has added another gem to its growing roster of young‑adult dramas with the debut of Sterling Point, a series that blends family drama, romance and personal growth against the backdrop of a secluded Canadian island. Created and directed by Megan Park, the eight‑episode show follows 17‑year‑old Annie Jacobson, played by Ella Rubin, as she unravels the mysteries of a life she never imagined.
Annie’s story begins in New York, where she lives with her adoptive father, portrayed by Jay Duplass, and her fraternal twin brother Connor, played by Keanu Reeves. The twins’ seemingly ordinary teenage existence is upended when Annie learns that a grandfather she has never known has left her an island estate in Canada. Driven by curiosity and a longing to understand her hidden family history, Annie travels to the island, only to discover a web of secrets that threaten to shatter the bonds she thought were unbreakable.
Central to the drama is the revelation of Ramona, Annie’s half‑sister, played by Amélie Elisabeth Hoeferle. Ramona, fiercely protective of her island home, is initially hostile to Annie’s arrival, setting the stage for a tense family reunion filled with hurt, anger and unanswered questions. The cast is bolstered by notable names such as Jacob Whiteduck‑Lavoie, Daniel Quinn‑Toy, Bo Bragason, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nikko Angelo Hinayo, Mabel Strachan, Elle‑Maija Talif, and Missi Pyle, all of whom bring depth to the complex family dynamics.
Executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for their work on other hit teen series, lend their expertise to the project, ensuring that Sterling Point avoids the clichéd tropes that often plague the genre. Instead, the show offers a grounded, emotionally intelligent narrative that explores themes of kinship and belonging. Critics have praised the series for its authentic portrayal of teenage life and its refusal to chase the next big teen trend.
With a solid rating of three and a half stars out of five, Sterling Point has been described as a “heartfelt YA drama that proves the best summer stories aren’t just about romance.” Its combination of picturesque Canadian scenery, compelling character arcs and a fresh take on family secrets makes it a standout addition to Prime Video’s young adult lineup.
