Sunny Deol’s much‑anticipated action thriller Parshuram, slated to begin production in October 2026, has been put on indefinite hold. The film, a joint venture of Madhu Mantena and Mythri Movie Makers, was set to bring together Deol and director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, who earned acclaim for his 2023 hit Kill.
Bhat’s new commitment to Hollywood has forced the project’s postponement. The filmmaker has signed on to direct Deadlocked, an Amazon MGM Studios action thriller starring Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx. After nearly two years of talks, Bhat is now focused on Deadlocked and is unlikely to take on any other projects until the Hollywood film is completed.
With Bhat’s unavailability, Parshuram’s release has been pushed to 2027. Producers are weighing whether to wait for the director’s return or to find a replacement. Mythri Movie Makers is also exploring the possibility of fast‑tracking Jaat 2 as an alternative project, though no decision has been made.
Meanwhile, Deol’s schedule remains packed. He will return to theatres on August 14 with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, followed by Shashank Udapurkar’s Gabru. He also stars as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, set to hit screens on November 6. Additionally, he is slated to appear in Excel Entertainment’s high‑concept action thriller Antony, co‑starring Jyotika.
Deadlocked, Bhat’s Hollywood debut, follows a grieving former Marine who is pulled back into action during a courtroom hostage crisis. The film is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video.
