South Korean K‑pop group Stray Kids has issued a statement regarding the recent decision by BTS to withdraw their latest album from Grammy consideration. During the press conference for the band’s mini‑album THIS & That, members were asked how they felt about BTS’s move. Instead of commenting directly on the other group’s choice, Stray Kids chose a neutral stance and focused on their own artistic philosophy.
Seungmin explained that the group does not base their music on external pressures or awards. “When we talk about the music we love, we don’t create performances, write songs, or write lyrics based on outside opinions,” he said. He added that they prefer to channel “the colors and stories we want to tell” into their work, emphasizing that the worldwide love for K‑pop reminds them of the power of music. “Realizing that our music can have an impact on so many people motivates us to keep making music that reaches as many listeners as possible,” Seungmin concluded.
Hyunjin echoed a similar sentiment, noting that from their debut Stray Kids have never pursued awards or records as a primary goal. “Since debuting as Stray Kids, we’ve never once promoted with awards or records as our goal,” he said. He stressed that the focus remains on delivering the best possible performance for fans and proving themselves through the music itself, with fan happiness as the top priority.
The comments came after BTS announced that they would not submit their new album for the Grammys, citing the creation of a separate “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category as a factor. Stray Kids’ six members—Seungmin, Hyunjin, Felix, Bang Chan, Han, and Lee Know—continued to emphasize their commitment to authenticity and fan connection in the wake of the controversy.
