After the box‑office success of Karuppu, actor Suriya has returned to the big screen with Vishwanath and Sons, which premiered on August 14. The film, written and directed by Venky Atluri, follows Olympic shooting champion Sanjay Vishwanath (played by Suriya) who, after becoming a billionaire businessman, remains unmarried at 40 and later brings a surrogate mother to India when his son requires a bone‑marrow transplant.
Although audience reactions are still pending, fellow actor Karthi has already weighed in. The younger brother posted the film’s poster on X, praising the script and the “beautiful characters and stunning performances.” He added that the movie is a “wholesome film that keeps you smiling throughout and fills your heart with love,” and expressed his desire to watch it again. Karthi also highlighted the performances of Suriya, Mamitha Baiju and Radhika Sarathkumar, calling Suriya’s role “class apart” and describing Baiju’s performance as full of life.
Produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, and presented by Srikara Studios, Vishwanath and Sons features music by G V Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Nimish Ravi, editing by Navin Nooli, and production design by Banglan. The cast also includes Radhika Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon and others.
In a pre‑release interview, Suriya thanked fans for their support, noting that he had previously been called the “adopted son” of Telugu cinema by the likes of Sivakumar, and expressed hope that the new film would receive the same love. He said, “I really, really want all your love and support. Thank you so much for this love.”
Released alongside Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 and Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, Vishwanath and Sons faces stiff competition in the Hindi market. Whether it can match the ₹310 crore worldwide haul of Karuppu remains to be seen.
