Venky Atluri’s latest venture, Vishwanath & Sons, has shattered box‑office expectations by crossing the ₹100 crore mark worldwide in just two days, making it the fastest Suriya film to reach this milestone. The Tamil‑Telugu action‑drama, starring the superstar Suriya alongside Mamitha Baiju, was released ahead of the Independence Day weekend and has already amassed a net collection of ₹58.15 crore in India, translating to a global gross of ₹110.22 crore.
Producer Sithara Entertainments announced the record-breaking earnings on social media, tweeting, “#VishwanathAndSons hits it out of the park and smashes a 100cr+ in just 2 days. #BlockbusterVAS running successfully in cinemas near you.” The film experienced a slight dip in India on Sunday, yet it remains the quickest Suriya picture to hit the ₹100 crore threshold, surpassing the earlier record set by Retro.
When compared to Suriya’s recent releases, Vishwanath & Sons is already outpacing Retro—which collected ₹35 crore net and ₹59.21 crore worldwide in its first three days—though it still trails behind the actor’s blockbuster Karuppu, which has grossed ₹121.75 crore worldwide in the same period. Trade portal Sacnilk reports that Karuppu pulled in ₹68 crore net in India, while Vishwanath & Sons has already secured ₹58.15 crore net.
The film’s narrative follows industrialist Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), an Olympic medalist who, in pursuit of fulfilling his mother’s wish for a family, arranges for a surrogate mother in the United States. Mamitha Baiju’s character Maddy becomes the surrogate, and what starts as a business arrangement gradually turns into a romantic entanglement, complicated by a 20‑year age gap. Supporting roles are played by Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon.
Released in both Tamil and Telugu, Vishwanath & Sons has performed notably better in the Tamil market. Critics have praised the film for addressing sensitive subjects such as childhood trauma, polygamy, and age‑gap relationships with maturity. With an anticipated dip during weekdays, industry observers are watching to see whether the film can surpass Suriya’s highest‑grossing film, Karuppu, which is projected to reach ₹300 crore.
