Hrithik Roshan Backs Sonam Wangchuk Amid Hunger Strike, Calls for Justice for Students

Hrithik Roshan has joined a growing chorus of Bollywood stars in backing activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike to protest alleged exam paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET examinations. The actor took to Instagram Stories on Friday to share a reel posted by Lisa Ray that featured Wangchuk speaking out about the silence surrounding the scandal and the tragic toll it has taken on students.

In the reel, Wangchuk warns that “twenty young souls have taken their own life” after preparing hard for exams that he claims were rigged. He argues that the consequences extend beyond the students, affecting future generations of doctors and engineers who would be “cheated” by a corrupt system. The activist’s words struck a chord with Roshan, who wrote, “This sounds true. I learned about the trauma students go through when I played a teacher in one of my movies.”

Wangchuk’s protest began on June 28, joining the Cockroach Janata Party’s sit‑in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The group has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged leaks. On Saturday, Delhi Police moved Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi High Court ordered the transfer, citing his deteriorating health and following medical advice.

Police said the activist was shifted in compliance with the court’s directions and that the protestors tried to create obstruction, leading to a slight commotion. However, the police maintained restraint, and Wangchuk was given essential medical care at the hospital.

Roshan’s support comes as the film fraternity’s backing for Wangchuk grows. The actor’s public stance underscores the broader concern that the alleged exam irregularities have compromised the integrity of India’s competitive entrance examinations and the future of countless students.
