Amitabh Bachchan is set to return as the host of the 18th season of the popular Indian quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). The new season will premiere on August 10 at 9 pm and will air every Monday to Friday on Sony Entertainment Television as well as on the streaming platform Sony LIV.
Season 18 introduces a fresh concept titled “Sochna Padega,” which translates to “You Have to Think.” The idea behind the theme is to shift the focus from rote memorisation to critical thinking and decision‑making in an era where information is readily available at the touch of a button.
In a series of three promotional spots, Bachchan explains why contestants will need to rethink their approach. He notes that answers can now be found on phones and in pockets, so simply recalling facts will no longer suffice. Instead, participants must analyse, connect dots and choose wisely.
The promos also stress that traditional subject knowledge—geography, history and science—will not be enough to win the game. Bachchan says the format has changed, and the challenge now lies in applying knowledge rather than merely remembering it.
With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and other technological advancements, the show’s new direction mirrors the evolving world. Bachchan highlights that what seemed impossible yesterday can happen in an instant today, and that contestants, like viewers, must adapt to this dynamic environment.
By emphasising thoughtful decision‑making, KBC 18 aims to remind audiences that access to information is abundant, but the real skill lies in understanding and using that information effectively. The season promises a smarter, more engaging gameplay experience for both participants and fans alike.
