Ranbir Kapoor to Take Arun Govil's Legacy Ahead as Lord Ram; Ramayana Delhi Trailer Launch

In a dazzling evening held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the upcoming film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, was launched with a grand trailer reveal that transformed the venue into a near‑replica of Ayodhya. The set featured a palace‑like stage and a spread of Awadhi, Rajputana and Marwari cuisines, creating a festive atmosphere that paid homage to the epic’s cultural roots.

The event brought together the entire cast, including lead actor Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, who discussed the journey of the film from its inception to the present. A highlight of the night was the presence of Arun Govil, the actor who famously portrayed Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s 1980s television series. Govil appeared on stage as King Dashrath, Ram’s father, and shared the spotlight with Kapoor, who will play the titular deity in the new production. The two actors exchanged a moment of nostalgia, with Kapoor assuring Govil that he would carry forward his legacy with dignity and grace.

Govil’s participation was met with thunderous applause, and he spoke about his role in the film. He expressed excitement at portraying King Dashrath, noting that the audience’s reaction was overwhelmingly positive. In a surprise addition, Sunny Deol and Yash were also invited on stage to announce their roles as Lord Hanuman and Ravana, respectively, adding a thrilling element to the launch.

During the ceremony, Deol thanked the filmmakers for the opportunity to portray Hanuman, mentioning that he had only filmed a small portion so far. He reflected on the significance of the Ramayana for Hindus, praising the chance to embody the beloved character’s mischievous, innocent, powerful and devoted nature. The event also featured a performance by sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, who announced his Bollywood debut with the film’s music.

The launch drew an impressive guest list that included Karan Johar, Saina Nehwal, Apoorve Mehta, and Ramdev Baba, among others. The evening’s blend of cinematic excitement, cultural homage, and star‑powered speeches underscored the film’s ambition to honor the epic’s legacy while presenting a fresh cinematic experience.
