Television star Harshad Chopda opened up about a painful episode from his early twenties during a recent appearance on the reality show Lock Upp season 2. In a candid interview with hosts Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, the actor recounted how a breakup at the age of 23 drove him to attempt self‑harm, leaving him with visible scars that still haunt him.
Chopda explained that he had just moved to Mumbai and was in his first serious relationship, which lasted roughly eight to nine months. One day, his girlfriend called and admitted she had cheated on him to make him jealous. The revelation shattered him, and in a moment of overwhelming heartbreak he cut his hand, saying, “I cut my hand.” He added that the scars from that day remain, a constant reminder of the pain he endured.
After cutting himself, Chopda woke up in a panic and, despite having an injured leg that made walking difficult, managed to reach a nearby hospital. The doctors warned that they would have to involve the police, which terrified him. He pleaded with the medical staff, ultimately swearing never to harm himself again.
Reflecting on the incident, the actor said he had tried to replace emotional anguish with physical pain, hoping the latter would make the former seem less severe. Today he looks back with regret, noting that the decision fundamentally altered how he confronts difficult moments: “Now, whenever I am in a similar situation, I remind myself to never do it again.”
Chopda also revealed that he kept the entire ordeal hidden from everyone, even his father, because he was young, living alone, and did not fully grasp the seriousness of what he had done. He described the experience as foolish and expressed that, had he died, it would have been “okay,” but surviving only intensified his panic and forced him to live on.
Concluding the interview, Chopda delivered a message he wishes he had understood earlier: that sharing struggles can be vital and that confronting emotional pain openly is healthier than masking it with physical suffering.
