On the bustling sets of the upcoming Tamil action‑thriller OM, two of India’s most celebrated actors, Mammootty and Dhanush, joined director Rajkumar Periasamy and editor R. Kalaivanan to mark their recent triumphs at the 72nd National Film Awards. The quartet cut a cake together in a modest celebration that the actors shared on social media, with Mammootty posting a series of photos and a heartfelt caption: “A small celebration of our National Award wins with Dhanush, Rajkumar Periasamy and R Kalaivanan on the sets of OM. Grateful for all the love and wishes.”
Mammootty’s fourth National Award comes in the Best Actor category for his compelling performance in Bramayugam, while Dhanush bagged two honours: Best Tamil Film for his directorial debut Raayan and a Special Mention for Best Actor for his role in Captain Miller. Rajkumar Periasamy was awarded Best Director for Amaran, and R. Kalaivanan received the Best Editing award for the same film. Dhanush reflected on the milestone, noting that “this is the third national award as an actor but recognition for directing Raayan is a different milestone in my artistic journey,” adding that “a first is always unforgettable.”
The celebratory mood was amplified by Mammootty’s son, Dulquer Salmaan, who posted a playful image of his father with the caption, “Another one? Yes Pa! It’s like your FOURTH!” The post was followed by a light‑hearted exchange about future wins, underscoring the family’s shared enthusiasm for cinema.
Beyond the awards, the film OM—titled OM: Chapter 1 (Udhiram – The Blood Wood)—features a star‑studded cast that includes Dhanush, Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela. Directed by Rajkumar and produced by Wunderbar Films and R Take Studios, the movie is slated for a worldwide release on October 16. While the storyline draws inspiration from real‑life events, the plot remains largely undisclosed, building anticipation among fans.
Dhanush’s recent projects include the film Kara and an upcoming role in Thamizh Murugan, while Mammootty’s upcoming Malayalam releases include Patriot, Law and Order, Padayaatra and Mattancherry Mafia. Both actors continue to balance prolific acting careers with their growing influence in the industry, marking a memorable moment of camaraderie and recognition on the set of their next big venture.
