Kiran Abbavaram Clarifies Obsession Comparison; Faces Backlash for K-Ramp Comparison

Actor Kiran Abbavaram has found himself at the center of an online storm after a clip from a recent podcast went viral. In the recording, the Telugu star joked that his upcoming 2025 film K‑Ramp shares a plot point with the Hollywood thriller Obsession, prompting fans to accuse him of disrespecting the American hit.

During the Chari Not Sorry podcast, one host praised the second half of K‑Ramp. Abbavaram laughed and remarked, “Isn’t that Obsession? So many people have called me and asked if I watched it. I said I haven’t because I’m busy shooting. They told me it was basically K‑Ramp because it’s the girl who keeps harassing the boy.” The comment, intended as a light‑hearted comparison, was taken by social media users as a direct comparison of the two films, sparking backlash.

In response to the criticism, Abbavaram clarified his position at a recent event. He said, “I don’t know why they’re turning it into something negative. All I said during a fun conversation was that some of my friends watched Obsession and told me it has the same plot point as K‑Ramp. I just mentioned it there. I didn’t compare both films.” The actor emphasized that his remarks were made in a casual tone and that he never intended to suggest that K‑Ramp was superior to Obsession.

Abbavaram also expressed respect for the Hollywood film, noting that Obsession has achieved a global reach and earned $430.1 million worldwide, far surpassing K‑Ramp, which grossed ₹27.50 crore. He added, “I have a lot of respect for that and was just being funny. I would never demean someone else’s film.”

The controversy comes as Abbavaram promotes his next project, Chennai Love Story, slated for release in 2026. The film stars him alongside Gouri Priya and is directed by Ravi Namburi and Lucky Bezawada. Despite the online uproar, the actor remains focused on his upcoming work and stresses that his comments were meant purely as a humorous observation rather than a critique.
