On a warm summer evening in New Jersey, Malayalam film icon Mohanlal found himself among thousands of fans at MetLife Stadium, witnessing the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in person. The actor, who had been traveling across the United States to watch each match, captured the electric atmosphere with a series of videos and photos that he shared on social media before the match began. In a clip that showed the packed stands, cheering crowds, and the roar of anticipation, Mohanlal wrote, “The stadium is buzzing. Can’t wait for kickoff. #FIFAWorldCup.” He posted a second image of the pitch, flanked by the flags of Argentina and Spain, again noting the excitement building for the showdown.
The final, played in extra time, saw Spain edge past defending champions Argentina 1‑0, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in the 106th minute. Mohanlal praised the intensity and quality of the contest, calling it “football at its very finest” and applauding both teams for delivering a match worthy of the world’s biggest stage. He congratulated Spain on becoming world champions, adding that the victory was well deserved.
Beyond the scoreline, the actor reflected on what the tournament had meant to him. In a heartfelt note posted on X (formerly Twitter), he described the week of World Cup matches as an unforgettable experience, highlighting football’s power to unite people across borders and rivalries. “Thank you, football, for reminding us that beyond rivalries and borders, the game has the power to bring the world together,” he wrote.
While cheering on the pitch, Mohanlal also kept fans in the loop about his own film career. He recently appeared in “Drishyam 3,” the final chapter of the popular thriller series, which hit theaters on 21 May 2026. Looking ahead, the superstar is set to headline Priyadarshan’s 100th directorial effort and will share the screen with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the upcoming film “Haiwaan,” slated for a worldwide release on 11 September 2026.
