Vismaya Mohanlal, the daughter of veteran actor Mohanlal, has become the target of a wave of cyber‑attacks after she publicly voiced her support for the protests led by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The actress, who is preparing for the release of her debut feature “Thudakkam,” posted a scathing critique of the police response to the demonstrations, writing: “Tear gas. Lathi charges. Students injured. Roads blocked… My question to all of you is simple: Do you genuinely believe this is how a democracy should respond to its own citizens?”
Within hours of the post, Vismaya was flooded with harassing comments on social media. Users accused her of being “a huge embarrassment” to her father, while others hurled slurs at both her and Mohanlal, who is currently in the United States promoting his upcoming film. Several commentators even branded her “anti‑national.” Despite the backlash, neither Vismaya nor Mohanlal has issued a public response to the online abuse.
In an interview with Manorama News, filmmaker Major Ravi—an ally of Mohanlal and a prominent BJP figure in Kerala—clarified that Vismaya was speaking in solidarity with the students, not endorsing the CJP’s agenda. Ravi added that the actress was simply voicing her concerns about the authorities’ handling of the protests.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation among Indian celebrities about the Jantar Mantar demonstrations. Dulquer Salmaan is the latest star to publicly express his support for the protestors, joining a growing list of public figures who have weighed in on the controversy.
