Akshay Kumar’s UK shoot wraps; Mumbai set for 20‑day finale

Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated sci‑fi action thriller Samuk has completed its extensive shoot in the United Kingdom, with the production now shifting to Mumbai for a final 20‑day wrap‑up. The film, directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures, is being crafted as a large‑scale theatrical spectacle that blends science fiction, action and survival elements.

Filming in the UK began in late August and, according to reports, nearly 80 percent of the movie’s scenes have been finished during the international schedule. The remaining portions of the project will be shot in Mumbai, where the crew will cover the final scenes and post‑production work over the next month.

Starring Akshay Kumar, Samuk features an eclectic ensemble that includes Rukmini Maitra, Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire, Banita Sandhu and Sushant Singh. While the makers have kept the plot and character details under wraps, the cast brings together talent from diverse backgrounds to support the genre‑blending narrative.

International expertise has also been brought on board, with Academy Award‑nominated creature‑effects designer Alec Gillis—known for his work on the Alien and Predator franchises—tasked with creating the film’s central alien creature. The production aims for a grounded visual approach, mixing creature effects with large‑scale action sequences.

For Akshay Kumar and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Samuk marks a reunion after 13 years. Co‑produced by Aashin A. Shah, the film is positioned as a major genre outing for Indian cinema, with a pan‑India theatrical release planned for 2027.
