Actress and environmental activist Dia Mirza has once again taken to social media to voice her criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first public statement on the Jantar Mantar protests, which have been sparked by allegations of a NEET examination paper leak. After the PM released a video message on social media promising strict action against those responsible, Mirza responded on Instagram with a scathing remark that she had not seen any empathy for the families and students affected by the crisis.
In her post, Mirza wrote, “Not one word of empathy for the parents who have lost their children, for the children who have died, for the incredible resilience of students demanding their rights, for Sonamji and the students who were on a hunger strike for weeks. How hard can it be Sir? It took 47 days for you to say something. And now that you have, you have said nothing. Nothing that can heal the millions of hearts that are broken.” The comment highlights the protest’s key grievances – the injuries from a lathi charge, the ongoing hunger strike of education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk, and the tragic loss of lives among students and their families.
Since the demonstrations began, Mirza has been one of the most vocal members of the film fraternity to support the movement. She has consistently used her platforms to amplify student concerns, encourage peaceful democratic participation, and demand accountability from authorities. Her latest post further stoked online debate, underscoring her role as a prominent celebrity advocate for the protest.
Mirza’s criticism comes as the protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi continue to draw attention from across the entertainment industry. While the Prime Minister’s video promised action, the actress argues that it falls short of addressing the core issues that have kept the movement alive for 47 days. Her call for empathy and substantive response reflects the broader frustration among students and their families who seek justice and transparency over the alleged paper leak.
