Blade Runner 2099 Trailer Released; First Look at Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the long‑anticipated live‑action television continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, titled Blade Runner 2099. The teaser premiered during Friday’s San Diego Comic‑Con, giving fans a first look at the eight‑episode limited series set to stream on Prime Video on November 25, 2026.

The new series is led by Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh, with supporting performances from Dimitri Abold, Matthew Needham, Daniel Rigby and Lewis Gribben. Showrunner Silka Luisa—known for her work on Shining Girls—has crafted the narrative, which takes place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049 in a rebuilt Los Angeles that “has not been rebuilt by humanity,” according to the official synopsis.

At the center of the story is Cora, a fugitive who adopts the identity of a Blade Runner in an attempt to escape her past. She must partner with Olwen, a Replicant nearing the end of her life, to hunt down a runaway whose hidden secret could destabilise the fragile balance of their city. The teaser offers glimpses of the franchise’s iconic neon‑lit landscapes, futuristic technology and noir‑inspired atmosphere while keeping the plot largely under wraps.

The trailer, shot at Comic‑Con on July 24, 2026, featured a promotional portrait with Broderick Johnson, Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Silka Luisa and Andrew Kosove. Amazon MGM Studios had previously revealed little about the project, making the Friday release the first substantial look at the series.

Blade Runner 2099 marks the first live‑action television series set within the Blade Runner universe, following the 1982 film by Ridley Scott and its 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Both films expanded the franchise’s world while preserving its philosophical themes and striking visual style, setting high expectations for the new series.
