Taapsee Pannu denies meeting Kangana Ranaut; says feud reflects upbringing

In a recent interview with India Today, actress Taapsee Pannu clarified that she has never met fellow star Kangana Ranaut, despite the high‑profile feud that flared in 2019 and 2020. Pannu said that the way both actresses speak about each other reflects their upbringing and personal perspectives, and she urged the public to judge each on her own merits. “I haven’t met her. I didn’t meet her before when these so‑called issues started. I haven’t met her now as well. My opinion on her is reflective of my upbringing and my way of talking, my way of perceiving things and hers… she stands by hers. So, I think that’s enough for everybody to look and decide who comes from where,” she explained.

The dispute began when Kangana’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, posted a comment on social media calling Pannu a “sasti copy” of Ranaut. The exchange escalated in 2020 when Ranaut labeled Pannu and other actresses as “B‑grade” and “needy outsiders” amid industry debates over nepotism. Pannu has repeatedly stated that she has never spoken negatively about Ranaut, and she remains open to friendship if the two were to meet. “I never clashed. You tell me — have I ever said even a single line against her? Her sister called me a ‘cheap copy.’ She said that since I don’t earn as much money as her, that makes me cheap. If she is such a brilliant actress, I have no problem being called her copy,” she said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.

Beyond the feud, Pannu addressed rumours that she might enter politics. She dismissed the idea, saying she is “too honest and vulnerable” for a political career and that she still wants to focus on filmmaking. “I am not at all considering joining and I don’t have the DNA for that,” she added, noting that she is interested in political issues as an educated citizen rather than from a party standpoint.

Professionally, Pannu’s most recent film is the action thriller Gandhari, directed by Devashish Makhija. The movie follows a mother’s relentless quest to rescue her kidnapped daughter, weaving themes of revenge and redemption into a gripping narrative. The film showcases Pannu’s continued commitment to challenging roles and her growing presence in Indian cinema.
