Bollywood star and former Member of Parliament Govinda has issued a formal legal notice demanding that anyone who spreads what he calls “false, defamatory and unverified” claims about his personal life be held accountable. The notice, released on his behalf, warns media houses, digital platforms, social‑media users and content creators that the circulation of such material could lead to civil and criminal action, and that the actor may seek damages of up to ₹100 crore.
Govinda’s warning comes amid a flurry of online speculation about his relationship with wife Sunita Ahuja and the recent rumours that he has married actress Komal Rani Swarnkar. The notice explicitly cautions against publishing or sharing photographs, videos, audio clips, morphed images, deepfakes or any other AI‑generated content that could be fabricated or unverified. It also states that Govinda has not authorised anyone to create, alter or commercialise his voice, likeness or any material related to his private and family life through artificial intelligence or other digital technologies.
According to the legal notice, Govinda believes that certain rumours are part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and cause him mental and social distress. The actor may pursue remedies under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000, including court orders that could affect the assets and financial accounts of those responsible for the defamation.
Govinda’s personal life has been under intense public scrutiny in recent weeks. He was spotted at an airport with his alleged girlfriend Komal Rani Swarnkar, prompting Sunita to label him as Komal’s “sugar daddy” and question their public appearances. In response, Govinda posted a video asking Sunita to refrain from making statements that could harm his reputation, career and standing in the film industry. On August 19, Sunita was seen leaving the Bandra Family Court with their son Yashvardhan Ahuja, and Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha confirmed that Sunita had withdrawn the divorce petition that had been pending for about two years.
Govinda is currently hospitalised in Mumbai, and the legal notice serves as a warning that any further defamation or misuse of his identity could lead to severe legal consequences, including potential civil and criminal penalties.
