Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Khalifa’ hits ₹25 crore worldwide; third‑day drop sharpens box‑office trend

Malayalam action‑crime thriller Khalifa, led by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has crossed the ₹25‑crore mark worldwide after just three days in theatres. The film opened on August 20 and has already amassed a domestic net total of ₹9.65 crore, while its global gross stands at ₹25.50 crore.

On Saturday, August 22, Khalifa earned an estimated ₹1.90 crore net in India, a 20.8% drop from the ₹2.40 crore collected on Day 2. The opening day net was ₹5.35 crore, and the film has played in 1,340 shows on Day 3, down from 1,441 on Day 2 and 1,967 on Day 1. Occupancy rates have slipped from 46% on opening day to 32% on Day 2 and 31% on Day 3.

Internationally, the film brought in an additional ₹3 crore on Day 3, bringing the overseas gross to ₹14.25 crore. Combined, the domestic and overseas figures give a worldwide total of ₹25.50 crore after three days of release.

The story follows a powerful gold‑smuggling figure who inherits a vast criminal empire, weaving action between the Middle East and India. Prithviraj Sukumaran headlines the cast, joined by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Indrans, Sanju Sivaram and Shammi Thilakan, with a cameo appearance by Mohanlal. Vysakh directs, Jinu V. Abraham writes and co‑produces with Suraj Kumar, while Sijo Sebastian and Sreelal Soolapani serve as co‑producers. Jomon T. John handles cinematography, Jakes Bejoy composes the score, Chaman Chakko edits, Mohandas designs production, and action choreography is provided by Yannick Ben, Chethan D’Souza and Phoenix Prabhu.

As Khalifa continues its theatrical run, Day 4 figures are still being tracked. The film’s sharp drop on the third day highlights a challenging trend for its box‑office performance, but the ₹25‑crore global milestone underscores its commercial impact.
