Spider‑Man: Brand New Day conquers U.S. box office; fourth straight weekend at the top

Spider‑Man: Brand New Day continues to dominate the U.S. box office, holding the top spot for a fourth straight weekend. The Tom Holland‑Zendaya superhero flick pulled in $39 million this week, a 45 percent drop from the $70 million it earned last weekend, but it remains the highest‑grossing film in North America. Since its July 31 release, the movie has accumulated $854.9 million domestically and an additional $1.37 billion internationally, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Sony Pictures’ second‑place offering, Insidious: Out of the Further, opened to $25.3 million, the strongest debut for the sixth installment of the horror franchise. The film stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson‑Sellers as a young woman who can summon spirits into the mortal realm but is herself haunted. David Gross of the FranchiseRe newsletter praised the opening, noting that while the drop from the fifth‑place opening in July 2023 is significant, it is typical for sequels.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey slipped to third place, earning $19.5 million for its sixth weekend—a 17 percent decline—and bringing its domestic total to $539.1 million. Paramount’s Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie fell to fourth with $9.1 million, down 55 percent from its opening, while Warner Bros.’s The End of Oak Street, featuring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, earned $9 million, a 57 percent drop.

The remaining top ten slots were filled by titles such as Mutiny, Tony, Spa Weekend, The Fast and the Furious, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. The data reflects a diverse mix of genres vying for audience attention during the current box‑office cycle.
